June 11, 2011-We left this morning for the North Pole! It’s a 15 mile drive from Fairbanks. As we were getting off the exit to the City of North Pole, we noticed the light posts were shaped like candy canes, and the streets had names such as: St. Nicholas Drive, Santa Claus Lane, Snowman Drive, and so on. We stopped at Santa Claus’ House and saw Santa and told him that our granddaughters, Hannah, Holly, Meghan and Mollie are the best. Santa reassured us that he knew who they were and would keep them on the nice list. We also saw Santa’s Reindeer and reminded them where the girls live. J We moved on and drove through the rest of North Pole. By the way, Santa’s zip code is 99705, since Christmas is only 6 months away!!!
On our way back to Fairbanks we stopped at the visitor’s center. We gathered more information on what to see and do in this area and then watched a movie about living in the wild. I discovered that this is not for me! I think the deal breaker was when he thought the cabin inside was a cozy 42 degrees when it was minus 40 outside. Burrrrrr
We then made our way out to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and took pictures just before it started to rain, what an amazing thing to see up close. Once again this was a terrific adventurous day. Earlier in the day we had stopped and ate lunch at Pagoda Chinese Restaurant. We saw this on the Food Network channel when Guy came here for Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. It really was good and we have enough leftovers for dinner!! Woohoo! /Marilyn
