June 15, 2011-Wednesday- We left Fairbanks today and heading for Tok. Our truck has had all of its maintenance done, laundry is caught up and our trailer is packed. We stayed in Tok, AK on the 15th of May and going back there on the 15th of June. We’ve been from one end of Alaska to the other on the good roads you can travel with a trailer. I can’t believe we did so many things in a month. We decided not to go to the Arctic Circle this time we’ll do it on our next trip. Dave talked to a guy this morning that had come from Dawson City and the “Top of the World Road”. He suggested we skip that road as it is slimy, slippery, and scary to drive because of all the rain. If it stops raining we’ll decide what to do because it doesn’t take long and the road dries out and then you have to worry about the dust. LOL!! We saw 4 moose; one pranced across the road, 2 were on the side of the road eating and one in a field grazing. This is the first alive wildlife we’ve seen in a week. We stopped at a sausage, meat store that one of our fellow campers had suggested and told us not miss it. After we sampled some of the sausages, David purchased a few and we left. We’re not far from Tok. We’re staying at the same park as before and the people remembered our Airstream. As we were driving to our campsite, we noticed a trailer that was quite muddy. A lady was standing by the door and Dave asked her if they had come from Dawson City. She said yes they had and the transmission of their truck had gone out and had to be towed here. She said the road was terrible and she wouldn’t recommend the drive right now. We’re all settled in and enjoying the evening. Jerry and Reva came over and we’ve decided to drive to Chicken tomorrow and leave the trailer here. We’re beginning to end our stay in Alaska. We truly have had an amazing time and unless we decide to repeat some of the things we’ve already done, it will be time to move on.
We’re already making a new list of the things we’d like to do when we come back. Dave and I would like to come back for a July and August trip leaving early September before it snows. We’d like to experience the Salmon Run and we still want to go to Dawson City and drive “On the Top of the World Road”. I’ll let you know tomorrow for sure, but I think we’re leaving Alaska and heading for the lower 48. /Marilyn
