Fairbanks/Dave's Birthday/Pioneer Park-June 13, 2011

July 13, 2011- Fairbanks-   We celebrated Dave’s birthday today!  First we started out by returning to the North Pole.  I had a few more things to finish up there and Dave wanted a Denali tape.  We made our purchases and left the North Pole and headed back to Fairbanks.  We checked out a few more things and took our purchases back to our trailer.  We regrouped and left for the Salmon Bake.  Pioneer Park is only a few minutes from our campground and we arrived around 5:00 o’clock.  The park has a lot to offer such as an Air Museum, Gold Rush Town to wandered around and a little Railroad.  We rode the train around the park to see everything that was there.  They pointed out that we could experience what it feels like at minus 40 degrees.  I believe I know when it’s too cold and I will skip that experience!  We’re on our way to the all you can eat Salmon Bake!  The food looks so good and we’ve heard so much about this place.  They have a nice salad bar, potatoes, sourdough rolls, and so on.  Next came the grilled salmon, prime rib, and battered dipped deep fried cod.  I normally don’t like salmon, but this was the best of the best.  We really enjoyed our dinner and needless to say, we did not have room for dessert.  Dave had a nice birthday and a great day. Tomorrow we’re off to The University of Alaska Museum of the North. /Marilyn
