We left Sheridan Wy. this morning and drove about 350 miles to Great Falls, Mt. We stopped at the Little Big Horn where Custer met his Waterloo. This was very interesting and very sad. Custer did not know what he was getting into and it also sealed the fate of the Indians. One comment that hit home was "Both the groups in the battle were defending their way of life." The drive across Montana was very interesting. It truly is big sky country. David
As David said, we left Sheridan, Wy and arrived at the Little Bighorn Battlefield. A Clash of Cultures! Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument memorializes one of the last armed efforts of the Northern Plains Indians to preserve their ancestral way of life. More than 260 soldiers and attached personnel of the U.S. Army met defeat and death at the hands of several thousand Lakota and Cheyenne warriors. Among the dead were Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer and every member of his immediate command. Although the Indians won the battle, they lost the war. Custer was from Monroe, Michigan. As David said it was sad but interesting. After we left the Little Bighorn Battlefield, we went across the road to Custer's Battlefield Trading Post. We ate lunch there and David had the Indian Taco with Fried Bread. It was delicious, as we all had to try it. Back on the road at 12:15p.m. we moved onto Billings, Mt. We then went over the Bull Mts. It started to rain and lasted only a few minutes some of it had snow in it. We then came to Judith Mts, and the Judith Basin. This had a new meaning, as my sisters name is Judith. We then went over the Little Belt Mts. We have now driven a little over 2950 miles. We have really enjoyed the "Big Sky state,". It's amazing how many ranches, cattle, horses and antelope you see. You can see for miles!!!! As we checked into Dicks RV Park, Great Falls, Mt., the lady checking us in said, "That's such a boring road". She was born and raised here and no longer sees the beauty of the land!/Marilyn
